If a tree falls in the forest, and no one’s there to read the pages culled from it’s pulp, did it write a novel?

Just as there are two sides to every story, there is also more than one path to success. Traditional publishing, Internet publishing, vanity publishing, sky writing with a big-ass plane and a smoke machine – You can read a novel in the bookstore without buying it, check it out of the library, download it in chunks on your iPhone, read it for free on the internet, maybe one day even TiVo it into your living room.

Midnight Reading isn’t about the method – it’s about the story.

As a writer of science fiction, I surprised myself by writing a Fantasy called Ether. Although it isn’t fantasy in the elves/dragons realm, it is, in fact, a fantasy novel. And I surprised myself again by making the decision to return to publishing on the Web, where the readers decide who is and isn’t good enough.

And if free novels aren’t your thing, then just hang out here and I’m sure to say something interesting.  Eventually.

Each novel will also be made available as a paperback, hard back, and ebook through the Midnight Reading store at Lulu, for those who don’t want to wait. But for those who like their fiction serialized weekly, Ether is a completed novel, and the posting schedule is set in stone, so if you start – rest assured you’ll finish!

As a matter of fact, Norma, that novel is posted here on this blog, chapter by chapter. You can find it starting here: http://mymidnightmuse.wordpress.com/2007/11/30/friday-chapter-1/

and it just continues along in the blog. That’s the only spot you’ll find this old story!

    WoW!!
Thank you very much!! I’ve just finished to put it all on my Kindle, I’ll reread all in this days. Erhhh…not to be too bold, but,,,There was a sequel, no? Do you have it here too?
And is not a horrible story, I remember it with love because I read it for the first time in a wonderful moment of my life, and ‘When the stars..’ will be for me forever a beautiful, sweet story. Thank you again for my memories

You can find Keeper published by Trunk Novels – available as a free download or for sale as a Trade Paperback. Visit http://trunknovels.com for details. The (also rewritten) sequels will be produced by Trunk Novels in the future, beginning in 2009.

When the Stars Walk Backwards was reposted chapter-by-chapter here on my blog, you can read it for free. I may, someday, provide it as a Trade Paperback if there is any interest. The other two: Minefield and Identity – I might produce myself in Trade Paperback form as well in the future. We’ll see.

My current and most recent works are being shopped to agents and publishers alike, so their future is still up in the air :)

    Hi,

I just re-read all four books from the Keeper series and I’m curious if there’s another story in work from that series. I love the universe you created and I can only hope that there will be more stories with Alex and Evan. Pretty please?

PS: Thanks for all the great stories and good luck with the publishing:-)

    Dear Kris,
I have loved your writing from the very beginning ( The Sentinel),but got crazy when you wrote When the Stars Walk Backward and printed it out and the next two sequels (thank goodness). I have just ordered my other favorite, Keeper. I also ordered your newest and can’t wait to read it
I know months ago you referenced the new place to go – Trunk Novels, but I can’t seem to find the website. I’ve typed in Trunk Novels.com but I am not getting the right site. Can you tell me what it is again, please? I also read M. Pilcher story but never printed it out (damn) and she never finished it on your old site. Do you know if it is hiding somewhere,I believe it was on your old Neon Frog site. Thanks for all your help and your wonderful writing.

Oh my, I just finished reading In The Time Of Dying and I loved it!
For some reason I thought if would be similar to Stars Walked Backwards but it was such a suprise. I really enjoyed it, and want to tell everyone what a great job you did. In fact I bought two copies and gave one to a friend! Of course now the only problem is waiting for your next one! Take care of yourself and again congrats on this wonderful story. Susan Monica
